Brik Oven’s founders channel a rugged, essentialist approach to their culinary craft. The brand identity revolves around hand-made, wood-fired pizzas, devoid of any unnecessary extravagance. In alignment with this vision, we embarked on the creation of a modern and functional space with the raw aesthetics of brutalism, reflecting their core values while keeping the primary focus on the artistry of the pizzas.
In the confines of Prestige Trade Tower, we were mindful of their rented space and abstained from permanent structural installations. Ingeniously, we embraced the iconic exposed brick style by stacking customized bricks on a metal frame against a raw concrete wall. The ascent towards the ceiling conceals service elements, veiled selectively by wooden members. The metal frame allows for flexibility to reimagine the layout and space at will, should the need arise.
The open kitchen stands as a testament to their no-frills cooking and their yearning for meaningful engagement with patrons about the food they serve. It features a black granite countertop seamlessly integrated with the kitchen ensemble, complemented by a ribbed wood base that adds a textural layer, soothing the monolithic setting. In response to the vertical expanse that could otherwise discourage conversations across the counter, we introduced a metal-framed planter shelf with a row of customized round luminaires. Industrial-inspired track lighting further augments the space, while the custom-designed tables with grey tile tops serve as a break between the wooden pizza paddles and the wooden flooring, and MS table legs establish a visual link with the metal wall frame.
To accommodate their diverse clientele, we designed the space to facilitate easy movement. The meticulously chosen flooring materials play a significant role: the concrete floor delineates an area for customers awaiting their take-away parcels, while the warm wood flooring defines the inviting seating space for those choosing to dine in. Stepping into the outdoor seating, reserved for individuals seeking a more leisurely experience, the granite stone pavers framed by planter boxes serve a dual purpose by providing both visual delineation and a barrier from the adjacent parking lot.
Through the use of three key materials and purposeful repetition, we sought to create a dynamic yet cohesive aesthetic that resonates with Brik Oven’s earthy and rustic identity.
