Pinklay, a homegrown lifestyle brand that blends traditional and modern designs to create clothing and home decor products that celebrate the rich heritage of Indian craftsmanship. Their fundamentals lie in embracing cultural roots and using indigenous techniques to craft authentic and meaningful pieces.

A renowned e-commerce brand embarked on its brick-and-mortar expansion, our studio was tasked with the challenge of creating a spatial brand identity afresh. Embracing the brand’s core values, we made conscious choices to use natural materials and age-old crafts throughout the store.

As a derivative of their logo, it features a vibrant blue façade spanning across with elevated arches framing the interior spaces that drive engagement with passersby and offer a warm welcome. The wooden louvers above serve a dual purpose by concealing a void of ducts while simultaneously evoking a sense of authenticity, reflecting one of their ethos.

Upon entering the store, anchoring the counter is a century-old vintage door, playfully adorned in the vibrant hues of Jaipur pink. This artistic fusion of traditional and modern Indian design encapsulates the heart and soul of Pinklay’s narrative.

Arches, meticulously incorporated as a recurring design element, frame various product sections, lending softness to the space. Kota stone floors and patterned tiles exude a tropical ambiance, setting a casual mood. Furniture thoughtfully custom-designed in a traditional style, along with the lighting scheme, was devised to evoke the warmth of a home-grown brand rather than a generic fast-fashion retail experience.

We transformed the original open-plan layout into seven connected rooms. Each room features white walls as a neutral backdrop to highlight different product ranges. In the Bedding section, a custom-designed bed is complemented by a cheerful pop of yellow. The Women’s Clothing area is accented by a bespoke mirror crafted from wooden blocks used in hand-block printing, paying homage to the art form that frequently graces their product range. While the Crockery, Bed and Bath, and Kids sections each offer different customer journeys, enabling them to delve into the details of an individual product.

To infuse the spirit of Jaipur within the store, we curated a seating area with a traditional baithak set against a midnight blue hand-painted mural. Besides providing a visual respite for shoppers, this space also doubles as a backdrop for shooting photographs.

Our primary objective for this flagship store was to retell their story through spatial design, offering a distinctive retail experience while considering their timeline, material specifications, and budget..
